As part of activities marking his 365 days in office, the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. ‘Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, on Monday, 17th November 2025, led an exciting lineup of political functionaries in a novelty football match against the Council’s career staff.

The colourful event, held at the main bowl of African Church Grammar School, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, attracted an impressive audience, including top political figures, party stalwarts, council officials and community leaders, all gathered to celebrate one year of purposeful leadership under the Oyegbola-Sodipo administration.

Demonstrating great team spirit and skill on the field, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo, who captained the political functionaries’ team, opened the scoreline with the first goal of the match. This was followed by another brilliant strike from Hon. Adebari Adekunle, sealing a 2–0 victory for the political functionaries.

The celebration also featured a second football showdown between Team Oke-Ona and Team Owu. In a fiercely contested game, young Fawas Amusan netted the decisive goal, earning Team Oke-Ona a 1–0 win.

Representing the Executive Chairman at the trophy presentation, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiyelolu Egbeyemi, alongside the APC Chairman of Abeokuta North, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, presented the winners’ trophy to the triumphant Oke-Ona team.
