The Abeokuta North Local Government has announced the immediate commencement of strict enforcement measures against street trading, unauthorized use of public spaces, and obstructions along the Olomore/Ita-Oshin axis.

The decision follows a series of public warnings and sensitization efforts aimed at addressing the illegal occupation of roadsides and pedestrian walkways, which have hindered traffic flow and raised safety and sanitation concerns.

Starting from Monday, July 14th, 2025, any individual or group found trading, placing goods, kiosks, or creating obstructions in non-designated areas along the Olomore/Ita-Oshin corridor will face strict penalties. Offenders will be fined Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000) and will forfeit all goods and items seized during the enforcement exercise.

Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon.Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, emphasized the importance of restoring order and ensuring public safety in the community. “We can no longer fold our arms and watch the flagrant abuse of public spaces continue unchecked. This move is not to punish anyone, but to enforce sanity and protect the collective interest of all road users and residents,” he stated.

Traders and residents are strongly urged to relocate to approved markets and designated trading areas to avoid arrest, fines, and loss of goods. The Local Government seeks the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative, aiming for a safer and more organized community.
