In preparation for the 37th Lisabi Day celebration and one of the Ancient Egba Festivals, the Executive Chairman, Abeokuta North Local Government, Prince Adebayo Abudulsalam Ayorinde has declared open the 37th edition of the Pre – Annual Lisabi Day Festival with Ayo Olopon competition.
The Vice Chairman, Hon. Ayoola Oluajo represented the Council Chairman at the event which took place inside the newly rehabilitated Olumo Multi-Purpose Hall, at the Secretariat in Akomoje, Abeokuta, on Tuesday 6th February 2024 with male and female participants from all over the Council area.
Therefore, the Council boss appreciated God for the successes recorded in last year’s edition and commended the organizers for this year’s 2024 edition of the Ayo Olopon Competition which is an integral part of the games for the entire festivity.
The number two citizen of the Council Area emphasized that the Chairman would have loved to be here personally but, was preoccupied with another state engagement that required urgency.
Twenty (20) participants registered for the competition comprising ten men and ten women. At the end of the competition, in the Male category, Mr. Rasheed Akanbi emerged as the winner while Mr. Lasisi Gbadebo came second and Mr. Olasukanmi finished in third position, in the Female category, Mrs. Ariyo Azeez emerged as the winner seconded by Mrs. Adeokun Salimat and Mrs. Taiwo Abosede came third position in that order.
Furthermore, Alhaji K. A. Adedo and Alhaji I. A Babarinsa were both representatives of the Lisabi Day Committee to monitor the events. Part of the gifts presented to the winners and the runner-ups includes Adire Atires and cash. The competition’s grand finale will be held on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 at the Ake Palace, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Dignitaries at the event includes; The Supervisor for Works and Housing, Mr Kabir Ayoola, Mrs Aderonke Adekunle, Head of the Community Development Department, and Mr Matthew Ilori, Community Officer.
Others include; Alhaji K. A. Adedo, and Alhaji I. A. Babarinsa who were representatives of the Lisabi Day Committee, participants, and members of Staff among many others.
