In fulfillment of his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and improved governance, the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. ‘Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, commissioned a state-of-the-art Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall at Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The project, described as a major milestone in the council’s infrastructural renewal agenda, is designed to enhance commercial activities by providing a more organized, safe, and accessible trading environment for residents, traders, and commuters within the locality.
Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo clarified that the Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall was originally initiated by the administration of Hon. Adebayo Abdulsalam Ayorinde, but his administration took up the responsibility of completing it to ensure its full realization for the benefit of the people. He emphasized that governance is a continuum and applauded the vision of the previous administration, stating that the present government is committed to building on past foundations to deliver meaningful development.
He further noted that the new shopping complex forms part of a broader vision to transform all trading centers across Abeokuta North into productive and well-structured economic hubs. According to him, the visible developments are “only a tip of the iceberg,” as more landmark projects are set to unfold in the coming months.
Also addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi-Akintunde, commended the traders, NURTW branch chairmen, Road Transport Workers’ leadership, and park management officials in Ita-Oshin for their cooperation, which ensured the smooth completion of the project within the motor park environment. She expressed confidence that the new shopping mall would further enhance both the commercial activities and aesthetic value of the area.
Sarumi-Akintunde urged transport workers and union leaders to collaborate effectively with prospective shop owners to ensure seamless operations and a harmonious business atmosphere within and around the new complex.
The event was graced by key stakeholders in the local government, including Supervisors, Special Advisers, Special Assistants, Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Kikelomo Munirat Ajayi, Directors and Hods.Also present were community and market leaders such as the Babaloja of Ita-Oshin, Chief Soneye Rasak; the Iyaloja of Ita-Oshin, Chief Mrs. Taiwo Atela; NURTW Branch Chairman, Alhaji Adelawa; Park Management Branch Chairman, Alhaji Olamilekan Balogun; Road Transport Chairman, Alhaji Monsuru Owokade; and APC Ward 12 Chairman, Comrade Sarafa.
The commissioning of the Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall marks another developmental stride under Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo’s administration, reinforcing the council’s drive toward sustainable urban renewal and improved socio-economic growth.
