Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has promised that his administration would take responsibility for the burial of the late Agura of Gbagura land Abeokuta, Oba Dr.Saburi Babajide Bakre.

Governor Abiodun disclosed this on Friday when he paid a condolence visit to the Guard Council of Chiefs.

Abiodun said, the deceased monarch has a revered throne and he must be accorded the respect he deserves. The governor maintained that the burial activities of the late King are a State responsibility, saying a committee of the State government would be set up to work with Chiefs in planning a befitting burial ceremony for the late Agura.

His words: “The burial activities of the Kabiyesi are for the State government, not Gbagura. This is a State responsibility. He held a revered throne and we will accord him the regard, the right, respect, and celebration that he deserves. We will accord Gbagura the celebration Gbagura deserves.

“For the burial arrangement, we will set up a committee that will work with you. As a government, we will try our best “.

Abiodun further commiserated with the immediate family of the traditional ruler and the entire people of Gbagura land, praying that God would be the companion of the widow and children he left behind.

Oba Bakre, the ninth Agura died on Wednesday 14th June,2023 at the age of 61, after a brief illness. The remains of the Monarch were buried on Thursday 15th June 2023 according to Islamic rites.

Moreover, in his condolence message, the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Prince Adebayo Ayorinde, described the late Agura as a worthy leader and amiable King who is well-loved by his people. He is firm and gentle in all ramifications and will be greatly missed.

The Council boss reiterated that all sons and daughters of Gbagura land home and abroad should come together as one.

In attendance were:Chief Bode Mustapha, the Osi of Egba land, Alhaji Nurudeen Olaleye, Balogun Gbagura, also the Chairman Board of Traditional Medicine Ogun State.

Others were:Hon. Ayoola Oluajo, Vice Chairman, Secretary to the Local government, Mr. Kabiru Odusiji, Deputy Leader, Hon.Adekunle Adebari, Hon.Makanjuola Tunde Saliu, Majority Leader, and other members of the Legislative House, Abeokuta North Local government.

Also in attendance:were Mrs Grace Bosede Bankole, Head of Local government Administration, Alhaji Sulaiman Ayinla, Director of Finance and Supplies, Ag Director, General Services, and Administration, Mr Hamza Afolabi, Directors, H.O.D of various departments, and other dignitaries across the State.
