
The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, on Friday 21st November, 2025 represented the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, at the commissioning of the newly completed Prince Dapo Abiodun Ultra-Modern Market in Lafenwa, Abeokuta North Local Government.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Hamzat reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Government to infrastructural expansion and sustainable economic development, noting that the new market stands as a strategic investment designed to strengthen commercial activities and empower local traders. He described the project as a significant milestone in the State’s drive to modernize markets and enhance the business environment across all Local Government Areas.
The Commissioner commended the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. (Dr.) Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, for his dedication and collaborative effort, which ensured the smooth completion of the project. He also acknowledged the role of the immediate past Chairman, Hon. AbdulSalam Ayorinde, who initiated the market, and praised the contractor, Multakar Nigeria Ltd., for delivering quality work consistent with the State’s standards.
Hon. Hamzat noted that the commissioning aligns with the Chairman’s one-year anniversary in office, adding that the Ogun State Government is impressed with the developmental achievements recorded under Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo’s administration. He encouraged the Local Government to sustain its momentum and deepen initiatives that will improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities for residents.
Highlighting other ongoing efforts in the Local Government Area, the Commissioner expressed strong confidence in the vision behind the Egba Computer Village, Olomore, describing it as a forward-thinking project that aligns with the State’s digital transformation agenda. According to him, upon completion, the Computer Village will position Abeokuta North as a major centre for ICT innovation, youth empowerment, and technology-driven commerce.
In support of grassroots economic development, Hon. Hamzat commended the Chairman’s plan to introduce a low-interest loan scheme for market women, stressing that such interventions are essential to promoting financial inclusion, easing economic pressure, and strengthening small businesses.
Market leaders, including the Iyaloja of Lafenwa Market, Alhaja Sidikat Owe, and the Babaloja, Alhaji Musa Adeyinka, expressed gratitude to both the State Government and the Local Government for their continuous support toward market development and trader welfare.
