
In a vibrant display of academic talent and intellectual confidence, Owu Baptist Day School, Ita-Iyalode, emerged overall winner at the Debate and Spelling Competition organized by the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. ’Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo.
The keenly contested event, held on Thursday, November 20, at the Habeeb Ajayi Multipurpose Hall, Akomoje, formed part of activities marking the first anniversary of the Oyegbola-Sodipo administration. Eight primary schools across the Local Government Area participated in the competition, which was designed to strengthen memory retention, sharpen reasoning skills, and promote academic excellence among young pupils.
At the end of the contest, Owu Baptist Day School claimed the first position, followed by Holy Trinity School 1, Gbagura Sabo in second place, while Oke-Ona United School, Ikereku, finished third.
St. Joseph (RCM) Nursery & Primary School, Oluwo Odunjo, secured fourth position; Ebenezer African Church Primary School, Ita-Oshin, clinched fifth position alongside Ansar-ud-Deen School, Ikereku, which also took fifth place. Nawair-ud-Deen Nursery and Primary School came seventh, while Abeokuta North Local Government Primary School finished eighth.
Applauding the pupils and their teachers, Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo commended the high level of preparation, discipline, and brilliance displayed by all participating schools. He encouraged the pupils to continue striving for excellence, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in the education sector, which he described as “the bedrock of Abeokuta North’s future.”
The event was graced by key political functionaries, including the Vice Chairman of ANLG, Hon. Tayeilolu Egbeyemi; Secretary to the Local Government, Engr. Mutiat Agbaje; LGEA Secretary, Chief Oluwole Ayorinde; Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Kikelomo Ajayi; as well as Supervisors, Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and teachers from participating schools.
