The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. (Dr.) Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, today convened a crucial Security Stakeholders Meeting in response to the heightened security concerns being recorded across the country. The meeting, held at the Council Secretariat, brought together all major security and community leaders within the Local Government.
In attendance were Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, Community Development Council (CDC) leadership, selected traditional leaders, and representatives of the Hausa community.
The Chairman noted that the current national situation calls for intensified vigilance, stronger coordination, and seamless communication among all security actors and community stakeholders. He emphasized that securing Abeokuta North requires a united, proactive, and intelligence-driven approach.
A major resolution from the meeting was the launch of a comprehensive awareness initiative tagged “See Something, Say Something.”
This campaign aims to encourage residents to promptly report suspicious activities and support security agencies with timely information that can help prevent crime.
Additionally, it was agreed that the official phone numbers of all DPOs within Abeokuta North would be made public to enhance swift communication and rapid response in times of emergency.
The Council also charged all Community Development Associations (CDAs) to clear overgrown bushes around their homes and neighborhoods. This, the Chairman noted, will reduce hiding spots for criminals, improve environmental cleanliness, and enhance visibility across communities.
Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all residents of Abeokuta North, assuring that the Council will continue to work closely with security agencies to maintain peace and order.
